Rathebon Porter
Also known affectionately as Corey
Norfolks are a robust breed and bred for
an active life. Sitting on the couch and looking pretty are not one of their major life goals. According
to the American Kennel Club breed standard the Norfolk Terrier's general appearance is one of "game and hardy,
with expressive dropped ears. Norfolks are one of the smallest of the working terriers. They are active and compact,
free-moving, with good substance and bone. With its natural, weather-resistant coat and short legs, it is a "perfect demon"
in the field. This versatile, agreeable breed can go to ground, bolt a fox and tackle or dispatch other small vermin, working
alone or with a pack. Honorable scars from wear and tear are acceptable in the ring."
Affectionate, inquisitive, intelligent, alert,
gregarious, spunky and loyal are just some of the words used to describe this enchanting breed.
I saw my first Norfolk terrier at a dog show many years ago.I fell in love with them immediately. I later learned Norfolk
terriers are considered a rare breed, ranked 117th out of 154 breeds with approximately 300 puppies
born each year.Searching for an available puppy became a long process
but the results were well worth the effort.Norfolk terriers in general are very
loving, devoted, adaptable under most circumstances and great fun. They have
a wonderful sense of humor, find delight in so many things and have enriched my life beyond measure.I consider it an honor and privilege to share my life with my four-footed furkids.
Rookwood Norfolk Terriers is located
in the Southern Tier of New York State. Our Norfolks compete in conformation, obedience, and earth dog trials.
With any luck, a late summer breeding between Corey and Lizzy is planned. If you would like more information about a
puppy from that breeding, please email me at bellison@stny.rr.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
